Physical Education
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?”
Corinthians 6:19-20
Our PE curriculum, developed in partnership with SHARES, has been thoughtfully designed to inspire active, confident, and resilient learners. It nurtures pupils who enjoy physical activity, demonstrate strong fundamental movement skills, and show determination to improve. Through high-quality coaching and engaging lessons, we aim to build teamwork, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of health and physical wellbeing.
P.E. Curriculum Intent & Guiding Principles
The objective of our physical education curriculum, is to inspire every student to thrive and excel in competitive sports and other physically demanding activities. We aim foster physical confidence, supporting their overall health and fitness, while also instilling values such as fairness and respect through participation in sports and other physical endeavours.
1. Every child is included and encouraged
We believe PE is for everyone. All pupils—regardless of ability, confidence or experience—are supported to take part, try new activities, and feel successful.
2. Physical activity builds healthy bodies and healthy minds
Regular movement improves fitness, emotional wellbeing, focus, and sleep. We promote active lifestyles that support children’s physical and mental health.
3. Developing skills step by step
Our PE curriculum helps children build fundamental skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, balance, coordination and teamwork. These skills prepare them for sport throughout primary school and beyond.
4. Enjoyment comes first
We create lessons that are fun, energetic and engaging. When children enjoy being active, they are more likely to stay active for life.
5. Encouraging effort, not just achievement
We celebrate personal progress, perseverance and trying your best. Children learn that improvement comes from practice, resilience and positive attitudes.
6. Teamwork and respect are at the heart of PE
Children learn to cooperate, communicate, share success, handle winning and losing respectfully, and support one another. Good sportsmanship matters as much as physical skill.
7. Safety and wellbeing are always a priority
We ensure that all activities are taught safely, equipment is well maintained, and children understand how to warm up, cool down and use equipment responsibly.
8. Opportunities for all to be active beyond lessons
We offer a range of clubs, competitions, active playtimes and events so children can explore and enjoy different sports and activities.
9. Lifelong habits start early
We encourage pupils to build habits that support a healthy lifestyle—staying active, eating well, and understanding that physical health is part of who God created them to be.

Bikeability
Our Bikeability and road safety programme, delivered by Active Sefton, equips pupils with the essential skills and confidence they need to travel safely and responsibly.
Through practical, progressive training, children learn how to handle their bikes with control, assess risks, and make safe decisions when riding on the road.
The programme also reinforces key messages about awareness, signalling, and respecting other road users. You can find more information about the Bikeability training provided by Active Sefton here: Bikeability – Active Sefton. By developing these life-long skills, we empower pupils to become independent, safety-conscious cyclists who can navigate their journeys with responsibility and confidence.
